Don't settle for less

August 31, 2024

Price and location are big determining factors when buying a home. But before making your final selection there are some questions you need to ask yourself.

In order to make a decision that you'll be happy with for years to come, make sure the home you choose ‘works' for you. Your must have list might include three bedrooms, a big yard, family room or other requirements. But there is more involved.

Do you enjoy formal dinner parties? If so, you'll need a dining room that's larger than a postage stamp. Like to cook? You'll need a workable kitchen, especially if you're joined by a second cook. If your entertaining is more casual with friends nearby watching you prepare meals, your kitchen will have to accommodate that.

Families with small children might want a yard with fencing, play space near the home's work areas and bedrooms that allow you to quickly check on a child who is sick or gets frightened in the night. If your kids are teenagers, they might prefer a room that's away from the home's main areas.

Hobbies can be messy and require storage. The same can be said for home office space. You can put these activities in other rooms but it's certainly not ideal. An area that can be quickly and easily shut off is best.

Don't settle for ‘make do.' You have lots of great options so take the time to select a home that's beautiful and functional.
