Divide and conquer

September 17, 2024

At first it sounds exciting. Then reality sets in. Along with a new home comes packing, moving, arranging for new doctors, schools, utilities and other services. You'll have to find a new route to your job and learn about the new neighbors and the best places to shop. And you haven't even started with getting your home ready to sell? Ouch!

Don't try to do it all alone and if possible, allow enough time to accomplish the tasks at hand. Divide and conquer. Except for very small children, everyone in the house can do something. Make a list of everything that needs to be done and decide on a plan of action.

Cleaning, painting and making repairs will all need attention, even if your home is relatively new. Everything should be sparkling clean and in good working order. And once this has been accomplished, your home must remain in tip top condition for showings.

Hire professional cleaning services and repair companies. Even friends and family (if willing) can be called on. Just remember to return the favor when it's their turn. If you try to do it all yourself, you'll burn out.

Allow yourself time for some fun and exercise. If you don't have the time or energy for your usual workout, take a brisk walk. When your home is being shown, arrange for a movie or some other fun activity. By planning for relaxation, you'll have more energy left over to enjoy your new home.
