Two common home buying mistakes

June 14, 2024

Buying a home is serious business. It's a long term commitment and probably the most money you'll ever spend for anything in your lifetime. Avoiding two of the most common mistakes will lead to a more satisfactory outcome.

Mistake number one is shopping without your own representative. A buyers agent will have your best interests in mind. So, if you find a property that has potential, be sure your agent is there looking out for you. As a team, you can zero in on a home that meets your criteria and negotiate a winning contract.

Mistake number two would be to look at a property strictly from an investment standpoint. You are buying much more than a house. You're purchasing a home and all that represents. It's where you'll build your life, entertain friends and escape from the world. Your home is a place of comfort and security so consider your emotional needs when making a decision. For instance, if you simply must putter in the yard, a high rise condo, even though it's an excellent investment, may never truly feel like home.

A real home is a love affair. Choose wisely.
